Chennai: Two college students who found a male baby abandoned by the roadside, admitted the infant to the GH where it is under special care.

While passing the back gate of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) late on Thursday evening, college students C S Chandrasekar and S Sathyadharan heard faint cries of a baby.

They came across a male baby tied in a cloth bag lying by the roadside. Quickly, one of them ran into the GH and informed the staff. On their advice, an 108 ambulance service was called.

“The two 108 ambulance staff were very cooperative and helped us hand over the infant to the authorities,” Chandrasekar said.

The male infant, upon admission weighed 2.9 kg, and he suffered no birth disorders. His condition is stable. Once he is ready to be discharged, he will be handed over to its biological mother or to a government-run home in the city. The baby could possibly be a week old," Dr. B.
