Telangana: Rain leaves small bylanes in a mess
Hyderabad: Once again rain created havoc in the city on Thursday. Mid-afternoon rain with accompanying dust and strong winds ripped apart branches and uprooted many trees in various parts of the city. Roads were blocked by the uprooted trees in Panjagutta, Begumpet, Khairatabad, Ameerpet, Yapral, Alwal, Old Alwal, ECIL, AOC Roads, Thrimulgherry and many other parts of the city.
Small bylanes in residential areas were in a mess as the roaring winds had brought along with it, dust and grime.
Electric wires were snapped in many parts of the city plunging the areas in darkness. By late afternoon, the city came to a grinding halt as it was not possible to commute on the city roads due to the strong winds and rain.
There was massive traffic jam seen in Secunderabad, Begumpet, Khairatabad, Panjuagutta, Ameerpet and several other parts of the city. Most of the bikers who had parked their vehicles near the trees found them covered with branches. Some of them were even damaged.
Social media was put to use as pictures of water logged areas were uploaded. Those whose bikes were damaged due to the fallen branch or tree also flashed pictures on social media.
Warnings were also issued to not venture out during the rains. In the Old City, the first day of Ramzan had many make-shift tents erected in the masjid compounds and in some places they collapsed due to the heavy winds. Most of these were erected only a day before the onset of the holy month.
Mr Irfan Khan explained, “There has been damage to individual homes as some had their window panes flying due to the impact of the rain and wind. Worse, with electric wires snapping, there is no current. This has been very difficult as conducting the night prayers which is usually done on road extensions will be a tricky issue.”
Complaints of no current being restored till late evening poured out from Old City, Begumpet, Ameerpet, Khairtabad, Kapra, Yapral, Nacharam and Ammuguda areas.
The places where trees are uprooted and also service wires affected will take time to get restored stated the electricity officials in Yapral division where there were a large number of uprooted trees.
