Solar has damaged CPM image: Oommen Chandy

Commenting on the bypoll, Mr Chandy said that it would be an evaluation of the LDF government by the people.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has accused the CPM of haunting him for the last five years with the solar scam bogey and said the LDF government stood discredited. "The LDF government has been put in the dock by the High Court which removed Saritha's letter from the solar commission's report," Mr Chandy told reporters amidst campaigning in Chengannur for the UDF candidate.

The LDF government had taken hasty action on the solar report, he said and added that he had no objection to the government proceeding further in the case.
"There was no evidence against me in the solar report and the LDF government came up with Saritha's letter. With the High Court rejecting the controversial letter, the credibility of the solar report itself has come under a cloud," he said.

He alleged that the CPM had been raising baseless allegations against him. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had told the media on October 11 last that the judicial report had been accepted and that cases would be registered against Chandy and others based on Saritha's letter claiming that she was sexually exploited.

"I have been saying all the time that I had not done anything wrong. So I have nothing to fear. I will face the case further legally," added Mr Chandy, when told that the state government was seeking legal advice on Tuesday's High Court order giving him partial relief. Commenting on the bypoll, Mr Chandy said that it would be an evaluation of the LDF government by the people. "The day D. Vijayakumar's candidature was announced, the UDF victory was sealed. The LDF government claimed Rs 750-crore worth development schemes in Chengannur. But 90 per cent of the schemes were implemented during the tenure of the previous UDF government," he added.
