Rural TN students to get 720 new Anna varsity college seats

UG admission in Anna University is done on the basis of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions and is usually grabbed by those in urban areas.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday announced additional 720 Anna university affiliated engineering seats for students of Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Madurai regions. A statement from the Chief Minister said that the prestigious Anna University will introduce undergraduate engineering courses in three zonal campuses of the institute.

Undergraduate (UG) admission in Anna University is done on the basis of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions and is usually grabbed by those in urban areas.

The move is aimed at providing access to quality technical education at low cost to students from backward families with good results. With this development, four undergraduate (UG) courses will be introduced on Anna University’s campuses in Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore from the current academic year.

Currently the university offers UG and PG courses in four of its city-based campuses, besides 13 university colleges across the state and this additional seats With the introduction of UG courses in the three zonal campuses, 60 students each would be admitted in the four courses from this academic year, the release said.

“I have directed launching of four UG courses from this academic year (2018-19) in these zones and each zone will get 240 seats,” Palaniswami said in a statement.
