Residents fight for water at Secunderabad Cantonment office

Hyderabad: Residents of Rasoolpura and neighboring localities staged a protest against acute water shortage at the Secunderabad Cantonment office on Thursday. Among those who protested, majority belonged to the Muslim community and demanded an increase in water supply during the Ramzan month.

Mr Mohd Sultan, a resident of Rasoolpura said, “Once in 4 days we receive water with low pressure. We are hardly able to collect four pots and survive with it till the next turn. How can a family of five depend on four pots of drinking water in this scorching heat?”

Another Resident Mr K. Ramesh said, “ We are forced to spend extra money from our pockets as we have to purchase water cans that cost between Rs 10 to Rs 40.” Currently, the SCB is releasing around 64 lakh gallons of water per day to 40 lakh water consumers falling in the jurisdiction which is way below the needs of the growing population. The supply is decreasing as the number of connections increase.
