Officials mum over legislators reaching Kochi

The Cochin International Airport Ltd has not received any intimation about the arrival of a chartered flight, said a CIAL official.

KOCHI: The police and the media in Kochi remained on tenterhooks on Thursday night amid speculations that Congress and JD (S) MLAs from Karnataka are likely to reach the city as a safe haven destination. Even though a five-star hotel in Kochi has been identified as the possible hideout for the MLAs the authorities in the hotel feigned ignorance about any such development. “Apart from a booking by marriage party we don’t have any bulk bookings”, an official in the reservation section of the hotel told this newspaper.

A Congress MLA from the city has been identified as the person entrusted with arranging accommodation and other logistics for the legislators from the neighbouring state. A helicopter services provider in Kochi said two chartered aircrafts were commissioned in Bengaluru for airlifting the MLAs. He, however, feigned ignorance about the arrival of the flights.

The Cochin International Airport Ltd has not received any intimation about the arrival of a chartered flight, said a CIAL official. Chartered flights need to inform the airport at least one hour before the arrival of a flight, he added. Police officials in the city also remained tightlipped about the possibility of the MLAs landing in the city.
