Karnataka governor abused democracy: Ramesh Chennithala

Mr Vajubhai behaved like an agent of the central government.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress leaders in the state have condemned the action of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala in inviting the BJP to form the government disregarding the claims of the Congress-JD(S) alliance which enjoyed majority support. "The governor has abused the democratic process and sounded its death knell by allowing BJP leader B. S. Yeddyurappa to take oath as the chief minister of Karnataka," said Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala here on Thursday.

"Mr Vajubhai behaved like an agent of the central government. The governor's role is to act democratically and not encourage horse-trading by Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The democratic norms have been thrown to the winds by the governor," he said. The BJP was pumping in crores of rupees to gain power like in Goa and Manipur, he said and added that the governor, who is supposed to safeguard the Constitution, was violating it.

"The Congress - JD (S) alliance will form the government soon as the Yeddy government will not last long," he claimed. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy said Mr Modi and the BJP had lost their credibility by their undemocratic actions. "Their claims of many achievements during their rule have been proved hollow," he said. Former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran demanded the resignation of Mr Vajubhai saying he had blackened the face of democracy. The DCCs took out marches across the state on Thursday evening in protest against the Karnataka developments.
