K Chandrasekhar Rao Front backs only JD(S), not Congress
Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is in a fix on the Karnataka issue. On Thursday, the Janata Dal (S)’s chief ministerial candidate —— H.D. Kumaraswamy, who is backed by the Congress, called on the chief ministers of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and former Chief Minister of UP Mayawati to fight unitedly against the BJP to save democracy.
During the election campaign, Mr Rao had held discussions with JD (S) chief and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his son —- Kumaraswamy and called on Karnataka’s voters to support the JD(S). He had also said that Mr Kumaraswamy would become CM if the JD(S) wins 40 seats.
With the Governor allowing the BJP’s —— B.S. Yeddyurappa to become Chief Minister despite his not having a majority, the JD(S) and Congress parties are on the warpath. Mr Rao has no problem supporting the JD(S); the fly in the ointment is the Congress party that Mr Rao has excluded from his federal front. If Mr Kumaraswamy becomes CM the Congress party will also benefit by sharing in the government and this is anathema to the TRS and Mr Rao. Mr Rao has not reacted to the Karnataka issue till now.
