Heavy rains disrupt power supply in Kottayam taluk

More than 300 houses were destroyed in three villages in the Kottayam taluk.

Kottayam: Aymanam, Varrisserry, Malloossery and Chungam in Kottayam municipality is facing power disruption for the past two days as a result of heavy rains.

More than 300 houses were destroyed in three villages in the Kottayam taluk.

Traffic on the Kottayam - Medical college hospital bypass was disrupted after trees were uprooted at various places. The flagpost of the Mallusserry Chungam St Thomas Knanaya Church also broke down.

Traffic was also affected at Chungam junction as a badam tree fell over a shop. Roofs of more than 20 houses were damaged after trees fell on them.

According to sources, more than 30 electric posts got uprooted.

Heavy losses occurred at places including Malloosserry MRA Nagar, and Chungham old seminary regions. Hundreds of trees got uprooted in strong winds at these places. Cable TV connections were also disrupted. According to sources from the electricity department it may take a few days to fix electricity connections.

Kottayam MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, municipal chairperson P.R. Sona, among others visited the place.
