Congress to hold protests against BJP in all districts

Shabbir Ali asks why KCR is silent about injustice to Kumaraswamy.

HYDERABAD: Following the Congress high command’s call for a nation-wide protest on May 18, against what it termed as “the murder of democracy” in Karnataka, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has asked cadre to organise protests in all district headquarters on Friday. Several Congress leaders, including AICC secretary and in-charge of Telangana Congress Mr. RC Khuntia, came down heavily on the BJP over subvert precedents in Karnataka. Some Telangana Congress leaders under the leadership of former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav tried to attack the BJP office alleging that BJP had followed unethical practices in Karnataka.

After burning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effigy at Gandhi Bhavan, Congress leaders were moving towards the BJP office, when the police took them into custody near Gandhi Bhavan itself. Mr Yadav alleged that the Karnataka Governor and Mr Modi had colluded in making Mr Yeddyurappa as the CM. Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan later, Mr Khuntia said that the Karnataka Governor’s decision in giving the BJP a chance to form the government went against the Constitution as the BJP had no majority.

Meanwhile, opposition leader in the Telangana Legislative Council, Mr. Shabbier Ali asked the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao why he was not speaking up on the Karnataka developments. He said that the JD(S) leader and Chief Ministerial candidate of Karnataka, Mr Kumaraswamy, had himself said that the democracy was being murdered and his party MLAs were offered Rs 100 crore each by the BJP. Mr Ali asked CM Mr Rao what was the secret behind his silence on this issue. Another the Leader of Opposition in the Telangana Assembly, Mr. K Jana Reddy said there was a need to oppose the anti-democratic policies of the BJP that had grossly misused their power.
