Congress attracts Osmania, Kakatiya university students

University students are making their presence felt during the Congress Praja Chaitanya yatra.

KUMARAM BHEEM ASIFABAD: The Congress is attracting the students of Osmania University and Kakatiya University from economically poor background to get an image of representing the downtrodden. Apart from the students, the party is also attracting social activists into its fold. University students are making their presence felt during the Congress Praja Chaitanya yatra.

Already, some Osmania University Student JAC lea-ders have joined the Con-gress. Some of the student JAC leaders from Kakatiya University are expected to join the Congress shortly. Along with other student leaders, Kakatiya university Student JAC president Pruthvi Raj has joined the Congress in the presence of TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. The Congress is giving priority to the university students as they were in the forefront in the Telangana agitation and have sacrificed their lives to achieve Telangana state.

Apart from this, the relations between Osmania University and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had soured over several issues and could help the Congress to attract them in its fold. They were critical of Mr Rao’s rule as there were no recruitment for them, even though jobless youth pinned lot of hopes on the government recruitment. TRS student Telangana Rashtra Vidyarthi Samiti Mancherial district president Sohail Khan along with 150 students joined the Congress.

In order to attract the students from economically poor background, the Cong-ress leaders are highlighting the fact that the fee reimbursement scheme was introduced by the Congress government in the past. “But the TRS destroyed the scheme and many students discontinued their studies due to pending fee reimbursement.” Getting the youth and students in its fold during the Praja Chaitanya yatra, it was clear that the Congress has realised that it was student community which is strongly opposing Mr Rao’s and his apathy in terms of funds allocation towards the universities.
