CM Chandrasekhar Rao orders ACB probe into medical seats scam

The CMO received complaints that some students are submitting fake certificates to secure seats under the sports quota.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday directed Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to probe into the complaints of irregularities in medical admissions under sports quota. Based on the complaints of irregularities under the sports quota, Mr Rao directed officials to initiate stringent action against those indulged in these irregularities.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) received complaints that some students are submitting fake certificates to secure seats under the sports quota. Complaints were also lodged against officials of Sports Authority for issuing certificates to students without verifying whether the students actually participated in recognised sporting events or whether the said sports fall under spo-rts quota category or not.

Students have complained that this practice was in vogue even before the bifurcation of state and has continued even in Telangana. The probe assumes significance in the backdrop on Telagana government issuing orders recently notifying two per cent sports quota in all state government jobs. The government is concerned that if fake sports quota menace is not controlled, it will adversely affect sports quota in jobs and genuine sportspersons will suffer. The two per cent sports quota in government jobs came into force with immediate effect and will be applicable to the direct recruitments to be conducted by TSPSC and other recruitment agencies.
