Bengaluru: Within hours after taking oath, Yeddyurappa sacks state Intelligence chief

Prasad has been replaced by Additional Director General of Police, Railways, Amar Kumar Pandey.

Bengaluru: With less than a fortnight now to prove his majority on the floor of the House, the newly appointed BJP Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday revamped his Intelligence unit and removed the incumbent Intelligence chief - Director General of Police Asit Mohan Prasad.

Prasad has been replaced by Additional Director General of Police, Railways, Amar Kumar Pandey. The posting of Mr Prasad has been kept in abeyance. Deputy Inspector General of Karnataka State Reserve Police, Sandeep Patil has been transferred and posted as DIG, Intelligence.

Every new chief minister rejigs his secretariat and the Intelligence unit with officers he can trust and Mr. Yeddyurappa did not lose any time in changing the guard at the critical office installing officers, who he trusts and who would deliver his immediate and most urgent requirement- of political intelligence, which would help in bringing in the required number of legislators from the Congress and JD(S) camp to the BJP kitty while keeping their ears to the ground on any dissension and mistrust in the State.

Meanwhile, there has been some change in the Bengaluru city police. Superintendent of Police, Anti Corruption Bureau, S. Girish has been transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police, North East and SP, Bidar D. Devaraja has been transferred and posted as DCP, Central. "There will be a major overhaul in the police department once the new BJP government gets the majority count," said an officer on condition of anonymity.
