Bengaluru: Braving 80 per cent disability he emerged school topper

Bengaluru: Sixteen-year-old Rahul K has set a standard for many to look up to. Braving disabilities and preparing himself without any tuitions for the SSLC exams, the youngster from the city emerged the school topper securing 95% marks. Ask him what he aspires to become and he says he’s yet to chose the best option.

“I like to see life as an open and free journey helping me take the right direction at the apt time,” he told Deccan Chronicle. The youngster with 80% disability, who also suffers from muscular dystrophy and learning and writing disabilities, is however vocal of his interest towards sciences – especially Physics and Chemistry.

He believes there’s lot science can do but at the same time respects the contribution of all realms of study he can pursue, widening his horizon to chose one from.

A student of Kairalee Nikethan English High School, Ulsoor, Rahul has inspired his peers and teachers well with his optimistic thoughts, says headmistress Rekha Venugopal.

“He is a young man of big dreams. We are hopeful that the concerned officials from the education sector here would help him find a way out to continue higher education the way he aspires to,” she said. Rahul’s father Kanakaraj R., who works as a salesman, said that the final call is left to him, even though Commerce looks a better option at present to pursue for PUC. “He is the eldest of my three children and we would like to see him fare best in what he is capable at,” he said.

“Consistent work and reading and the priceless support everyone at school and home gave me ensured a good result for me, and I’m sure this would continue” Rahul said.
