Tamil Nadu government to revive Plus-1 board annual exam

The government is planning to undertake syllabus change work in the next three years.

Chennai: After having abolished the ranking system in Plus-2 exams, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to hold the board exams for Plus-1 students from the coming academic year (2017-18).

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan said, “The state government is all set to overhaul the school education system to prepare students for any competitive exams. A detailed announcement on changing the syllabus and board exams for Plus-1 will be made on Friday.”

The government is planning to undertake syllabus change work in the next three years. The minister also invited corporate companies, alumni and the general public and private institutions to generously make donations to build additional infrastructure in government schools. “The government has allotted Rs.26,913 crore for school education department. Other infrastructure projects are also being done with the help of SSA, RMSA and NABARD. But, still, some government schools have small needs in terms of infrastructure,” he said.

The state government will also acknowledge the donations in form of a certificate, he said. The government is planning to set up a committee to receive donations from old students working in foreign countries and other states. “We have requested the local administration minister to spare the MGNREGA workers once in two months to clean the school campuses,” Mr.Sengottaiyan said.
