Hyderabad to get GHMC golf course if all goes well

Civic body inspects 2-acre space in Jubilee Hills for project.

Hyderabad: The GHMC is constructing a mini golf course, a football ground, and a walking track on two acres of open space at Road Number 36 in Jubilee Hills. It is for the first time that the civic body will build a golf course in the city. The existing courses are all owned and maintained by private firms. If all goes well, a pet park similar to the one in Bengaluru will also be constructed.

Officials inspected the GHMC-owned open land that is located on Road Number 36, on the way to Peddamma Temple. At present, the space is a dump yard for garbage. Dr B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner of the GHMC, said, “We are looking at a tiny golf course, a 3-4 hole project. We are exploring the space meant for the course, but this is not for serious golf players. The corporation has decided to build theme parks across five zones in Greater Hyderabad. Jubilee Hills will have the first of them.”

The central zone city planning wing will submit an expression of interest to the public, to seek suggestions regarding the development of the park. After this, a detailed project report will be prepared, and the project will be executed in the form of a public-private partnership.

The Commissioner further added, “Jubilee Hills division is already witnessing water constraints; the demand is much higher than the supply. The corporation does not want to add to the demand, thus the golf course will be built using surf grass. The same has been planned for the football ground. With regard to the theme park, we will add 2-3 games catering to different age groups. The project is still on paper, it will take a month or more to formulate the plan and execute it.”
