Cabinet okays second phase of Kochi Metro

The estimated project cost of the second phase is Rs 2577 crore.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet on Wednesday decided to give administrative sanction for the second phase of the Kochi Metro from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to Kakkanad Infopark, a distance of 11.17 kms.

The estimated project cost of the second phase is Rs 2577 crore. A total of 12 metro stations – Kaloor stadium, Palarivattom junction, Palarivattom bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Kunnumpuram, Kakkanad junction, SEZ, Chittethukara, Rajagiri and Infopark-I and Infopark-II, have been planned initially. Though the Revenue Department completed the survey for land acquisition two years ago, protests arose from various quarters against the route, forcing the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) to ask RITES to review the alignment. As per the present alignment, the Metro line will pass through Palarivattom, Vazhakkala, Padamugal, Pump junction, Sea Port-Airport Road to reach Infopark at Chittethukara.
