Bengaluru: A testimony to friendship is this duo, who helped each other in study and clarify their doubts through phone calls as both deal with mobility disabilities, one from birth and the other developed it when she was growing up. Beating all their odds, Krithika A. and Chandana B.S., both 18 years old, came out with flying colours in their second PU exams. Krithika scored 88%, while Chandana secured 75%. They are both students of Jnana Sweekar PU College on Kanakapura road.

Chandana said, “As a person with disability, life can be a bit tough, but when one has the support of family and friends who believe in you, no dream is unachievable. We tried hard. We really put in time and stayed after hours in college, but it was really Krithika, our friends and faculty at college that gave us the push. It feels good to say that the environment is quite inclusive.”
Chandana was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a condition that affects the nervous system and makes voluntary movements difficult. “We met in college but it was often difficult for us to do group studies. So we would help each other out on the phone,” she says.
While Chandana’s disability was from birth, Krithika’s wasn’t. “It wasn’t very evident when I was little, but got worse as I grew older. I was in middle school when I lost mobility of the right hand and right leg. I use my left hand to write and it feels completely normal now,” she said. While Krithika aims to be a Chartered Accountant, Chandana hasn’t thought about her future yet.
