72 hours of no power for 500 Hyderabad homes

Though power supply has been restored to the area, not all houses have got back the supply.

Hyderabad: Residents of over 500 houses in and around Padmaraonagar in Secunderabad have been without power supply for more than 70 hours since Saturday night. While most of them were waiting for power supply to be restored by Tuesday night, some of the inmates of independent buildings and apartments have hired generators spending from their pockets.

Though power supply has been restored to the area, not all houses have got back the supply as the “service wire” to many a building was snapped after trees and branches fell on it following heavy wind and rain a couple of nights ago.

“Of the 1,000 complaints, we have restored supply to about 500 houses after the inmates brought service wire. We have told the residents to bring service wire. It is available in all electrical shops. A service wire is one which brings power supply into the house from the pole. This wire investment has to be made by the house owners,” a senior official of the Discom said. Those who have gone without power supply did not even know it was due to service wire problem that they did not have supply while their neighbours had it.

“We thought one-phase was not there. It usually happens. But later, the electricity staff came door to door to check and told us about service wire problem. We got power in the afternoon but it tripped again. We got power only around 7 pm while my cousin has not got it so far,” said Ms Deekshita Rao, a resident of Venkatapuram Colony.
