Warangal: An elderly man Jukanti Sammaiah, 85, was killed by an unidentified person in the early hours of Wednesday and in another incident, a woman Bolla Rajamma, 90, living in the same locality was also attacked and severely injured.

The incident took place in Malawada of Chelpur village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. The police suspect it to be the work of a mentally-unstable person.

According to the police, Sammaiah, who lived with his grandson, was sleeping outside the house when the assailant slit his throat and stabbed him several times in the abdomen.

The assailant also cut off Sammaiah’s genitals. Later, the assailant knocked the door of the Bolla Rajamma, 90, who lives next door.

As the woman did not open the door, the assailant removed the roof tiles and entered the house. The assailant attacked Rajamma and tried to strangle her but she resisted. Rajamma was injured in the scuffle and fell down. The unknown person assumed her to be dead and left the house.

Superintendent of police R. Bhaskaran visited the village and inspected the crime scene. Mr Bhaskaran said that investigation is on to nab the murderer. The police has ruled out the intent of burglary even though the assailant entered two houses in the same locality.

CCTV footage from the locality is being examined. Police is yet to conclude if the assailant is a local or a non-local.
