‘Link’ with BJP MP: Mysuru woman blames fake news

Simha, who is again contesting from Mysuru-Kodagu this Lok Sabha poll.

Mysuru: A woman in Mysuru complained to deputy commissioner, Abhiram G Shankar on Wednesday that fake news was being circulated on social media that she was in a relationship with Mysuru Kodagu MP, Pratap Simha of the BJP.

In her complaint she said a fake audio and conversation about her alleged relationship with Mr Simha was being circulated on WhatsApp and was proving damaging to her reputation. Although she admitted to being a fan of the MP when she was still a student and taking a photograph with him and his child on visiting his home at the time and also uploading it on social media, she claimed the same photograph was now being misused along with the fake conversation to imply a relationship between them.

She urged the deputy commissioner to take necessary action to restrain the circulation of this false information on social media and help her get justice in the matter.

Mr Simha, who is again contesting from Mysuru-Kodagu this Lok Sabha poll, had filed a suit on February 16 before the seventh additional city civil and sessions judge in Bengaluru, and succeeded in bringing a temporary order restraining the print, electronic and social media from publishing fake derogatory news concerning him. He acted in response to an article in a vernacular newspaper, which he found false and damaging to his reputation. He claimed similar attempts were made to harm his image by two vernacular newspapers during the last two Lok Sabha polls as well.
