Kozhikode: 220 sunburns cases in 10 days
Kozhikode: A total of 220 people have sought treatment for sunburns in the district in the last 10 days, according to the district health department. In March alone, 102 people were hit in Kozhikode.
On Wednesday, 13 new cases of sun burns were reported, out of whom nine men, four women and two children were taken to various hospitals.
The maximum number of sun burns occurred at Kommerri, Payyoli, Vadakara, Puthupanam, Perambra, Kozhikode city corporation, Maniyoor, Thodannoor, Meppayyur, Peruvayal, Onchiyam, Beypore, Thiruvallur, Naduvannur, Panangad, and Theekkuni.
IMD officials said that the maximum temperature recorded here on Wednesday was 37 degrees Celsius whereas on Monday and Tuesday it was 36.3 degrees, 2.8 degrees above normal. The collector has directed Anganawadis not to function till April 30. Outdoor summer camps have been banned during peak hours.
The Private Building Contractors' Association (PBCA) released a directive on the summertime work rearrangement but many private agencies still violate the directives. The majority of such cases were reported at the construction sites and action was taken against over six agencies, said labour department sources. The agencies have been directed to observe mid-day break between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
District Medical Officer Dr Jayasree said that the summer drizzle on Wednesday evening brought some relief to the people. But still they must be extra careful during high temperature, she said
