Kannapur: Tribals migrate as water woes engulf villages

Marriage venues shifted to areas that have more water; busy with polls officials ignore situation.

Kannapur: The drinking water problem is increasing with soaring temperatures in tribal areas and people are forced to depend on rivulets in Indravelli, Utnoor, Sirikonda, Gadiguda and Narnoor mandals in Adilabad district.

Adivasis are shifting to nearby villages where there is less of a drinking water problem. Even marriages are being performed in other villages when there is a water problem in their own villages.

Some families from Dharmannapet who faced an acute drinking water problem shifted to Bursigutta village in the hope that they can access drinking water in Sirkonda mandal.

Jendaguda gram panchayat sarpanch Dilip said there is acute drinking water problem in villages in the gram panchayat and requested officials concerned to supply drinking water.

A marriage party of Kundipipri in Gadiguda mandal shifted the venue to Mankapur in Narnoor mandal since there was an acute drinking water problem in Kundipipri village.

The tragedy is that in some Adivasi gudems, people are drinking polluted unboiled water collected from deserted drinking water wells. Due to this, they are prone to diarrhea and other health problems in summer.

In some villages, the borewells are defunct and women are walking long distances to fetch water from streams and rivulets. Officials concerned are not paying much attention to the issue since they are busy in conducting elections.
