Hyderabad: Three Rohingyas obtain voter IDs, held

The accused travelled a distance of around 3,000 km to reach the city.

Hyderabad: Three Rohingyas who illegally migrated to the city from Myanmar and secured identity cards from the government by impersonating as Indians were arrested on Wednesday by the South Zone Task Force team.

According to the police, the accused, 25-year-old Mohd Ibrahim, 34-year-old Noor ul Ameen and 28-year-old Shaik Azhar hail from Buthidaung in Myanmar and had illegally migrated to India five years ago.

The accused travelled a distance of around 3,000 km to reach the city. They all entered India via Bangladesh. Speaking about the modus operandi, S. Chaitanya Kumar, Addl. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, Hyderabad said, “The accused first obtained voter cards by submitting an electricity bill. Then they applied for Aadhaar, ration card, PAN and other ID proofs. Finally they applied for a passport to legalise themselves as Indian citizens. All through out they impersonated as Indians by hiding their personal details and nationality and also claimed themselves as beneficiaries of the welfare schemes introduced by government.”
