Hyderabad: Teachers skip evaluation, cite illness
Hyderabad: As many as 162 teachers in Ranga Reddy district did not report for the evaluation of Class X English paper on April 15 and 16 despite being assigned the duty.
Seventy teachers reported to the district officer on Wednesday after a showcase notice was issued to them. The teachers were armed with a doctor’s certificate stating that they were suffering from health problems and could not report for the correction of the papers.
There are more than 2,000 government teachers who have been assigned the task of evaluating the SSC question papers.
According to the rules set by the education department, one teacher can correct only 12 papers in a day and the corrections have to be checked by the invigilator and then the marks finalised.
The teachers are called to a government centre where the evaluations are carried out and the paper checking is carried out in the centres only. The duty is assigned in advance to the senior teachers but during that time these 162 teachers didn’t raise any issues of health.
A senior teacher explained, “The problem is encountered every year but this year the numbers have been high. These high numbers have created a backlog in the checking of English papers and therefore the department complained and action was initiated.”
A showcase notice has been issued to the teachers and they have been asked to submit an explanation for their negligence in doing their duty.
