How to vote, use VVPAT: CEO Satyabrata Sahoo

Are you first time voter or confused about electronic gadgets? Here’s what you should do at polling booth.

CHENNAI: Explaining on how to operate the EVMs, and functioning of the VVPATs, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo said if the green lights glows on the EVM, then it indicates the machine is ready for voting.

One should first select the candidate with the symbol marked against his name from the list displayed on the EVM and then press the corresponding blue button to vote.

Immediately, the VVPAT will display whom one has voted for and the voter to verify. The print display will be on for seven seconds before falling into the slot.

Ready reckoner for voters
All those whose names figure in the electoral rolls could exercise their franchise in the April 18 elections. Though voter ID card (EPIC) is must, one can nevertheless exercise the franchise if his or her name is included in the electoral rolls of the respective Assembly constituency where they reside.

One could exercise the franchise by producing one of the following documents announced by the Election Commission as proof of identity at the polling station. They are: passport, driving licence, service identity card (issued to employees by central/state/public sector undertakings /public limited companies), passbook (issued by bank and post office with photo), PAN, smart card (issued by RGI under NPR), MNREGA job card, health insurance smart card (issued under the scheme of ministry of labour), pension document (with photo), official identity card (issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs) Aadhar card.
