NAMAKKAL: Barely hours before polling is to begin in the April 18 Lok Sabha elections, the DMK-alliance candidate A.K. P. Chinnaraj, contesting from Namakkal constituency, had a miraculous escape in a road accident on Wednesday evening, as the car in which he was travelling with his family members suddenly turned turtle near Nallipalayam on the Salem-Namakkal national highway.
Mr Chinnaraj of the Kongu outfit, Kongnadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK), contesting on DMK's symbol in this parliament election, had been returning to Namakkal from Salem when the mishap occurred, police said. While Chinnaraj, his grandson and granddaughter escaped with minor injuries, the candidate's wife Shanthi and their daughter Sujitha suffered injuries in the car mishap. The latter have been admitted to a private hospital in Namakkal.
