Hyderabad: Youth drowns in swimming contest with friends
Hyderabad: The body of a 20-year-old boy who drowned during a swimming challenge with his friends at a lake in Abdullapurmet was recovered on Tuesday, two days after he drowned.
NDRF teams were deployed to recover the body from the lake. The deceased was identified as Mohammed Gaffar, a bike mechanic. Gaffar, a resident of Anajpur village, had gone to the lake along with his friends, where they had a swimming challenge. While swimming, he drowned in the deep waters.
His friends rushed to the village and informed his parents. Later they, along with police launched a rescue operation and even expert swimmers were called in, but in vain. The police later contacted the NDRF for assistance. Police said that a team of 30 personnel from the NDRF arrived at the lake and started a search operation. After a massive search effort, the body was found at 6 am on Tuesday.
