Why crimes vs women on rise: Madras High Court
Chennai: Pointing out a rise in sex crimes against women and children, the Madras high court has said some urgent measures have to be taken to stop such crimes.
Justice N.Kirubakaran had on December 17 last year, deprecated the rise in sex crimes against women and girl children and posed 25 queries to the Union and State governments which included the one as to the causes for increase in sexual offences against women and children.
When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, Additional advocate general Pugalenthi filed a report of Maheswaran, Assistant Inspector General of Police in the office of DGP, answering certain queries. However, there was no response from the central government.
Pulling up the central government for failing to file its response to his queries made earlier, Justice Kirubakaran said, “Kids are raped. Everywhere it is happening. Potential offenders can be ascertained and counseling should be given to them. I posed 25 queries. What the central government is doing. It is a serious issue. Children are affected. Some urgent measures have to be taken. Everybody got girl child. It is our duty to protect them”.
Observing that child rape was increasing nowadays, the judge said, “We have to see from psychological angle also. Child abusers have a psychological disorder. We have to find out and give them psychological counseling.
The counseling should begin from schooling level. We have to address to the psychological issues. For that we need more psychologist and psychiatrist”. Stating that every day media was reporting such incidents (crimes), the judge said, “Even after that we should not keep quiet. Urgent measures have to be taken to stop such crimes” . When AAG pointed out the recent conversation the professor had with her girl students, the judge said the professor was luring the girls. Moral value has gone. Professor, who should be a role model, was doing like this.
