GreenPro summit second edition begins
Hyderabad: The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a body under the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), plans to study the feasibility of adopting of green products for the construction of buildings in Hyderabad as per the government’s directive.
The second edition of the GreenPro Summit commenced at the HICC on Tuesday. Subjects such as the use of green products for building exteriors, innovative green products, and green ready mix concrete are being discussed at the two-day event.
Speaking at the Summit, C. Shekar Reddy, the chairman of the Hyderabad Chapter of the IGBC, said, “Hyderabad will be the first megacity where such a feasibility study will be conducted. It has previously been done in Bhopal and Indore. We will complete the study before the Green Building Congress that is to be held in Hyderabad from November 1 to 3, in which 150 countries are expected to participate.”
The IGBC has certified over 370 buildings products as “green products”. R. Parasuraman, the chairman of the CII Green Products and Services Council, said, “Today, over 370 building products are GreenPro certified. The CII will certify over 1,000 products by 2022. In the days to come, CII will also certify industrial products and technologies, and consumer products.” The Council aims to meet the rising demand for green products that is emerging from the construction, manufacturing, and industrial sectors.
At the inaugural session of the Summit, GreenPro certification was awarded to 13 companies, viz. ACC Limited, Akzo Nobel India Ltd, Eden Innovations India Pvt Ltd, Ekam Eco Solutions Pvt Ltd, Green Build Products India Pvt Ltd, Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co Ltd, Godrej Construction, Honeywell Home and Building Technologies, Kesoram Industries Ltd, Magneto CleanTech, NITCO Ltd, Star Comfort Industries, and UltraTech Cement Ltd (Unit: Birla White).
