Gales, hailstorm play havoc at some places in Telangana
Hyderabad: Spells of rain on Sunday evening gave respite from the summer heat to people in many parts of Telangana but gales and hailstorms wreaked havoc at some places.
Two deaths were reported from Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar districts due to lightning. A farmer, identified as Shyam, died in Medipally in Yacharam mandal of RR district. A person died in Kothur of Mahbubnagar district.
Twelve houses were damaged in Jillela village in Siricilla mandal of Karimnagar district injuring three people. Nearly 500 quintals of food grains stored in market yards was damaged.
Mango crops in Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Medak were damaged due to hailstorms. Hailstroms coupled with rain uprooted trees and electric poles in Medak district disrupting power supply and traffic on roads.
A poultry farm in Toophran mandal was washed away killing nearly 2,000 birds.
In Nalgonda district, the sudden downpour coupled with hailstorms damaged paddy, maize, mango and other crops.
