Dry weather triggering rise in nose bleeding

The immediate remedial action is to sit up, pinch the nose, tilt the head forward and breathe with the mouth for a couple of minutes.

Hyderabad: With nose being the most exposed part of the body to the summer heat, extreme dry weather is leading to nose bleeding especially among children and adults. Nose bleeding, or epistaxis, is reported more often in summer.

The immediate remedial action is to sit up, pinch the nose, tilt the head forward and breathe with the mouth for a couple of minutes. Experts advise that the blood should not be allowed to enter the throat or swallow it.

According to Dr C. Shekhar Singh, consultant ENT surgeon, Epistaxis or nasal bleeding is seen more among children because they do not develop the Little’s area which is the anterior part of the nasal cavity.

This site has a confluence of blood vessels and a place where bleeding occurs commonly. Sometimes, infection or a tumour too could cause nose bleeding.
In adults, high tension can cause nasal bleeding. The person experiencing epistaxis may be scared, but it can be controlled.

In summer, due to excessive heat and dry weather one tends to bleed while inhaling hot air. According to Ayurveda, nose bleeding is called ‘Nakseer’, Dr S. Vijaya Sagar, chief superintendent, Indian Ayurveda Pharmacy, said. He advised against venturing out during between 10 am and 4 pm, in the heat. Normal food can be consumed, and people should drink more water.
