Checks on colleges to start soon in Hyderabad

Vigilance personnel will be taking the help of other government departments for the statewide checks.

Hyderabad: Vigilance-led teams are all set begin inspections of all private institutions in a week’s time.The teams will check nearly 6,000 private junior, degree and PG, engineering, medical, pharma, BEd and DEd colleges. Private schools will not be checked in the drive.

Vigilance personnel are collecting data relating to government guidelines for unaided and aided private institutions, details of scholarships and fee reimbursement; eligibility criteria and its implementation and faculty rules among others. But the primary objective is to verify if private institutions flouted rules and guidelines to avail of welfare schemes illegally, official of the department said.

The vigilance teams would also be verifying if building rules and plans have been adhered to, and if fire safety measures are in place. Vigilance personnel will be taking the help of other government departments for the statewide checks. While personnel from the vigilance, education and police will form the core group, staff from the revenue department and the local civic bodies will also be deployed. Each group will have 10 members.
