Met issues swell wave alert along coast

Thiruvananthapuram: Indian Meteorological Department has issued swell wave alert along the Kerala coast till Tuesday night even as some districts are already on an alert for heat wave. The alert was also issued for Lakshadweep, South Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

IMD has predicted that Coastal areas may experience above normal day temperatures (two to three Celsius more than the average) on most days except during March 20 to 23 when they could fall to the near normal range.

IMD had predicted a warning to vary of severe heat in the state for 24 hours from 6 p.m. of Sunday in five districts. There are chances for an abnormal increase of three degrees in heat at Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kannur districts.

There is also a possibility that sea will be rough near shore along the coast till 11:30 p.m. of Tuesday due to the effect of high period (16 to19 second) swell waves, having 1.8 to 2.2 metre height in Kerala.
