Unseasonal rains lashed SPSR Nellore district on Friday evening and played havoc with the standing crops.

Nellore: Unseasonal rains lashed SPSR Nellore district on Friday evening and played havoc with the standing crops as well as harvested paddy lying in the farms in various parts of the district. Former Finance Minister and TDP General Secretary Anam Ramanarayana Reddy has appealed the government to rescue the affected farmers in Atmakur constituency.

He said official teams would assess the damage while appealing the farmers to give the details of loss to the teams visiting their areas. Meanwhile, agriculture minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has directed agriculture officials to rush to affected areas and start enumerating the damages. Farmers in Manubolu mandal said that nearly 3,000 tonne of paddy was drenched in the rain and the standing crop, ready for harvest in about 2,800 acre was also damaged because of the unseasonal rain.

YSRC district convener and Sarvepalli legislator Kakani Govardhan Reddy has demanded compensation for the damaged paddy. TD coordinator for Sarvepalli segment, Somireddy Rajagopal Reddy also visited the affected areas and promised aid from the government while carrying out his father and agriculture minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy’s instructions to the agriculture department to assess the damage.
