Hyderabad: ACB raids judicial officer, seizes Rs 3.57 crore assets
HYDERABAD: A judicial officer was nailed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and sleuths unearthed Rs 3.57 crore worth of ill-gotten wealth after multiple raids.
The raids followed orders of Hyderabad High Court and a case of disproportionate assets was booked against Hyderabad Labour Court presiding officer Mallampati Gandhi.
Corruption charges against M. Gandhi surfaced when the court received a complaint against him.
The High Court directed the ACB to verify the allegation. Following investigation, it submitted a fact finding report to the court which granted permission for action. Based on this, raids were conducted on Saturday.
Searches were carried out at residences of the accused and of his relatives in Hyderabad and West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh.
It was found that M. Gandhi acquired 18.22 acres in West Godavari, two flats and a three-storeyed building in Hyderabad, besides three cars. The sleuths also seized 1 kg gold and 4 kg silver.
The ACB tracked down the bank accounts and lockers of the accused and an SBI locker at Warasiguda – Secunderabad, 1.5 kg gold jewellery was seized.
While searches continued, the ACB found that Gandhi had acquired a flat in Banjara Hills, an old house and a three-storeyed building in Warasiguda and agriculture land in Venkatayapalem and Karagapadu against his known source of income. The value of the total seized properties amassed between 1994 and 2018 was '3.57 crore.
Searches were likely to continue on Sunday and the ACB was yet to arrest the judicial officer.
