Guntur diarrhoea menace: N Chandrababu Naidu faults Guntur officials

Diarrhoea affected 6 wards in the city and 8 persons died of it: Pulla Rao.

GUNTUR: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was angry over the officials for failing to check the spread of diarrhoea in Guntur which claimed the lives of 10 people. He held a video conference with the municipal officials on Saturday. Recalling the Hudhud cyclone and recovery from the disaster, he said now, the officials are lacking the spirit and directed them to take measures, including changing all the damaged and leaking water supply pipelines, to prevent contamination of drinking water which has led to the outbreak of diarrhoea.

According to the reports, Mr Naidu was angry with the officials and municipal administration minister P. Narayana for giving a chance to Jana Sena chief K. Pawan Kalyan to criticise the TD government on the issue. Immediately, Mr Narayana, along with civil supplies minister P. Pulla Rao and minister for social welfare N. Ananda Babu, reached Guntur and inspected the overhead tank at BR Stadium, chlorination process in the Suddapalli Donka pump house and toured dairrhoea-affected areas. He said the government initiated steps for changing the damaged pipelines and called tenders for the same sanctioning Rs 10 crore. Old pipelines in 110 municipalities in 13 districts of AP would be at a cost of '2,700 crore under Amruth scheme.
