At 45, Sunil Kumar bags gold at IIM-Bengaluru

At IIMB, Vaya won hearts making his presence felt across domains and events, be it for arts, sports or other cultural and outreach events.

Bengaluru: At the age of 45, Sunil Kumar Vaya has been busy preparing for exams with his elder son Nayanil, who is currently taking his Class 12 board examinations. While his son’s exams are yet to get over, the father is on cloud nine as he emerged a gold medallist for his exemplary all-round performance at the Indian Institute of Management- Bangalore (IIM-B).

“Age is never a bar for learning, as it is a life-long process. If I can do at the age of 45, why not the same for someone who is 10 or 15 years older to me?” he remarked.

While attending a residential training programme held as part of his official exposure, he got carried away by the conducive atmosphere at campus.

Making the most of his return to student life, even though the course was conducted during weekends, Vaya won the Director’s Merit List Award on completion of his first year.

He also participated in a live case study with Moscow State University Lomonosov Business School at Russia on the introduction of sensor business.

At IIMB, Vaya won hearts making his presence felt across domains and events, be it for arts, sports or other cultural and outreach events.

With moist eyes when asked about what he’ll look forward to for the next weekend, he replied that at present he feels a vacuum, but has decided with his classmates to visit the campus every third Friday to continue research.

“It was Robin Sharma’s The Leader Who Had No Title that pushed me back to intensive reading, which led to reading books for a formal cause opening up the path towards research and studies here in this premier institute,” he said.

Vaya is one among the eight gold medallists (including two women) at the 43rd Annual Convocation on Saturday. He graduated from the Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM).
