2 killed, 6 injured as car rams into tipper on Hyderabad-Srisailam highway

Hyderabad: Two in a group of nine friends on a joyride to a dam in Srisailam on Saturday morning died when their vehicle rammed a tipper from the rear at Maisigandi on Hyderabad-Srisailam Highway. Six in the team suffered grievous injuries.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Feroz, 25, a private employee from Madan-napet, and Syed Sameer, 24, from Malakpet.

The injured were Mohammad Moin, 22, Mohd Wahaaz, 21, a private employee, Syed Abdul Kareem, 30, a driver, Mohd Khasif, 23, Asgar Ali, 24, Riyaz Iqbal, 29, a cable operator and Mohd Afsar, 25, a lift operator, all of who are admitted in Osm-ania General Hospital.

“The team was travelling in an an Innova to Srisailam. The driver of the tipper in front of them applied a sudden brake leading their vehicle to hit the tipper,” said the Amangal police inspector.

Feroz and Sameer, who were sitting in the front, died on the spot, while the rest sustained serious injuries, the official added.

The locals struggled to break open the doors of the smashed car. “We tried to break open the door and pull out the bodies. The guy driving was crushed between the steering wheel and the seat,” said police, adding that the locals helped in pulling them out and escorting them to hospital.

“The car went right into the truck. The reason could be the wet road after rain or poor lighting,” said an onlooker who helped the police pull out the bodies. The tipper driver fled the scene.

Based on a complaint, a case of negligent driving was booked against him, police added.
