Congress: MIM helping BJP growth
Hyderabad: The Congress on Friday alleged that the AIMIM was covertly helping the BJP to strengthen its base across the country. “MIM is playing into the hands of BJP to polarise elections. They experimented with polarisation of voters by contesting Maharashtra Assembly elections held in 2016. Their entry helped the BJP and Shiv Sena win the Assembly polls due to division of secular votes. Muslims should be cautious of MIM,” TPCC spokesman Syed Nizamuddin said.
The MIM had levelled a similar allegation in the recent Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. “Although it was rejected by UP voters, MIM was able to help the BJP win 19 of the 33 seats it contested,” said Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee minorities wing chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail.
Syed Nizamuddin asked MIM to explain the source of funds that it had spent in UP elections. “MIM never contested from all 15 seats of Hyderabad district. But how did it manage to contest over 30 seats in UP and Asaduddin Owaisi even hired a helicopter to address maximum number of public meetings. The MIM should reveal it sources of funds,” he said. MIM now plans to enter Gujarat and Karnataka to help the BJP win Assembly polls next year, Mr Nizamuddin said.
