Hyderabad:The civil aviation ministry lacks skilled manpower in all aviation related fields like pilots, technical engineers, staff in the finance and accounts sector too, experts opined.
The civil aviation ministry hired ICRA Management Consultancy Services Ltd. (IMaCS) to undertake a comprehensive skill gap analysis in the sector and to formulate a roadmap to address it. Its draft report recommended building a robust training and skill building ecosystem through institutional strengthening, infrastructure and capacity planning, training process reengineering, strengthening funding mechanism and monitoring and evaluation.
It also recommended, among other things, the setting up of a National Civil Aviation Training Authority and a Cargo and Ground Handling Sector Skill Council. The aviation secretary said there was an urgent need to address the skill gap in civil aviation.
Mr Amit Pathak, GM training India, Pratt 7 Whitney explained, “Chemical engineers are showing interest in top corporates instead of aerospace is the challenge we are facing. There is a need for engineers here. Placements is another issue as only IITs are considered.”
