Officials busy with K Chandrasekhar Rao’s birthday, citizens suffer

The clearly officials took this to mean that they should plant saplings.

Hyderabad: It seems that the flagship Harita Haaram kickstarted before the monsoon, with over 1 crore saplings being planted on Monday to mark Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s 66th birthday.

Paralysing the administration, officials from all city departments including the GHMC, HMDA, HMWS&SB, HMRL and district collectorates were busy planting saplings. Competing with the TRS workers, officials even skipped the weekly Prajavani programme, in which citizens in large numbers throng government offices to find on-the-spot solutions for their grievances. Surprisingly, all nodal agencies issued official releases for the day-long plantation programme.

Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao through his Twitter handle appealed to party workers not to erect hoardings but plant a sapling to greet the Chief Minister. The clearly officials took this to mean that they should plant saplings. This caused great inconvenience to the people who came to the offices to resolve their grievances. They were shocked to learn that officials along with ruling party leaders were participating in the plantation programme which is usually held during the monsoon.

Hundreds of party workers including bureaucrats met Mr Chandrasekhar Rao at his official residence greet him. Dignitaries including Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Assembly Speaker Pocha-ram Srinivas Reddy, ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, corporation chairpersons, commissioners, academy chairpersons, IAS, IPS and IFS Officers, leaders from several unions and associations met the CM at at Pragati Bhavan. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said the GHMC was making its efforts to provide lung spaces in the city. Inspired by TRS Rajya Sabha member J. Santosh Kumar’s green challenge, a plantation programme under taken in all 150 wards. At Gachibowli Stadium, 10,000 trees were planted using the Miyawaki method.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan greeted the CM over the phone. The CM also thanked PM Modi, AP Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and others.
