According to Varaaki, recently the Union government had enacted the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

The Act came into force on December 12, 2019 after the President of India gave assent to the Bill and the same was published in the Gazette. After the enactment of the Act, various political parties and organisations were organising agitations through out the country protesting against the Act.

He said till date, more than 120 illegal demonstrations have been conducted without permission from the police department. The organizations which were spearheading the agitations have filed several petitions, challenging the constitutional validity of the Act.
