Anti-CAA agitation continues at Washermenpet

The protesters said that they will continue the stir until the State governme-nt passes a resolution against implementing CAA.

Chennai: The anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protest in Washermenpet continued for the fourth consecutive day on Monday.

Around 1,000 persons gathered at Lalgunda street at Washermenpet, raising slogans against CAA, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).

The protesters said that they will continue the stir until the State governme-nt passes a resolution against implementing CAA.

Police security was beefed up at the protest site.The protesters also demanded action against the police personnel who lathicharged agitators on February 14.

Marriage held at protest site: At Chennai’s Shaheen Bagh, a couple decided to marry during the anti-CAA protests that have entered the fourth day in Lala Gunda area in Old Washermanpet in Chennai on Monday. The couple, M. Shahensha and S. Sumaya were already engaged and decided to get married at the protest site.

Speaking at the protest, the groom reportedly said that he agrees to the wedding but disagrees with the CAA. The protesters have stood firm on their demand that the protests will continue until a resolution against the National Population Register and CAA is passed in the Tamil Nadu State Assembly.
