Kasargod: Two Youth Congress workers were killed at Kallyott, Periya, near Kanhangad on Sunday night by suspected CPM men.
The police identified the victims as Kallyotte Kichu alias Kripesh, 24, and his friend Joshy alias Sarathlal, 27.
They were attacked around 8.30 pm while riding a bike to the home of Mr Sarathlal. A group waylaid them at Thannithode-Koorankara road and hacked both, according to police. Mr Kripesh died on the spot while Mr Sarathlal, who was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore with serious injuries, succumbed to injuries later.
A large posse of police has been stationed at the spot to check any spread of violence. There was a series of clashes between the CPM and Congress in the area. Congress alleged that CPM was behind the attack and declared a district-wide hartal.
The body of Mr Kripesh kept at the Government Hospital here will be shifted to Pariyaram Medical College on Monday for the autopsy, the police said.
