Compensation to flood-hit farmers soon

The government will increase production of cattle feed and take steps to stabilise its prices, he said.

Alappuzha: Animal husbandry minister K. Raju says the dairy sector had suffered losses to the tune of Rs 107 crore in the August floods and all affected farmers would get compensated.

Handing over keys of Milma Bhavan and distribution of financial assistance to flood-hit dairy farmers under the aegis of Milma Thiruvananthap-uram Regional Coopera-tive Milk Producers' Uni-on at Punnapra near here on Saturday, he said they had lost 8,000 cows.

“The government will increase production of cattle feed and take steps to stabilise its prices,” he said.

“Further, we will initiate measures to insure the cattle. Respective milk societies or panchayats will bear their premium.”

Milma chairman Balan Master presided over. District Panchayat president G. Venugopal, Kerala Dairy Farmers Welfare Fund Board chairman N. Rajan, Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation managing director Patil Suyog Subhashrao and others were present.
