Mobile vehicle to scan breast cancer launched in Rajahmundry

The mobile van will screen women for breast cancer free of cost from April in Rajahmundry Parliamentary segment.

RAJAHMUNDRY: A digital mobile mammography vehicle estimated to cost Rs 2 crores will be launched. The mobile van will screen women for breast cancer free of cost from April in Rajahmundry Parliamentary segment covering parts of Godavari districts. Rajahmundry MP M. Murali Mohan and GSL Trust entered into a memorandum of understanding to launch a ultra-modern vehicle designed specially in Coimbatore under the joint aegis of Rajahmundry MP contributing Rs 1.30 crore from his MP LADS and GSL Trust sharing the remaining Rs 70 lakhs.

The MP said that the vehicle would move in villages to screen women for breast cancer and send information online to the experts who in turn will analyse the data and diagnose the disease. He said the vehicle would move in villages for 15 days under the supervision of Rajahmundry MP and the remaining 15 days in a month, under the control of GSL Trust. Basavatarakam Cancer hospital located in Hyderabad earlier catered to the people in the erstwhile AP but after bifurcation of the state, its services were confined to the people living in TS. To overcome the shortage of such a facility, they were launching the digital mobile mammography vehicle.
