A bird's eye view

The CM was received by Shravanabelagola Jain Math pontiff Charukeerthy Bhattaraka Swamiji and later poured holy water on the statue.

HASSAN: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clambered over 600 steps to reach the top of Vindhayagiri Hill and participated in the inaugural of Mahamastakabhisheka at Shravanabelagola on Saturday.

In view of his knee problem, the CM consulted doctors at a temporary medical camp set up at the venue before trudging up to the top of the hill. When he arrived at the top of the hill, Mr Siddaramaiah used an elevator to reach the top of the scaffolding and perform ‘Jalabhisheka’ to the statue of Lord Bahubali. The CM was received by Shravanabelagola Jain Math pontiff Charukeerthy Bhattaraka Swamiji and later poured holy water on the statue.

Religious fervour marked the first day of Mahamastakabhisheka with devotees who opted for kasala seva dressed in saffron attire and monks were seated around the special enclosure.
