Telangana: MTech students wait for stipend

The All-India Council for Technical Education gives a monthly stipend of Rs 12,400 for students.

HYDERABAD: MTech second-year students at the Osmania University College of Engineering and a few other institutions are waiting for monthly scholarships for several months. The All-India Council for Technical Education gives a monthly stipend of Rs 12,400 for students who qualify in GATE and join PG engineering courses. As part of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme, PG engineering students in a few top colleges are being given Rs 8,000 scholarship per month.

For this students have to apply and wait for the decision of a related committee. While the Centre’s contribution is 80 per cent, the state pays the rest. This scheme is to end in March, but the final year PG students have not received their scholarship for nearly a year. A student said 100 students from OU had to get nearly Rs 1 lakh each. “We have met officials in the varsity and government. The delay is due to release of funds,” the student said.
