New Zealand deports student back to Hyderabad

Mirza said he was picked up by the police on February 15 and kept in the police station prison for two nights.

Hyderabad: A Hyderabadi student who had been detained by the New Zealand police was deported to India on Friday.

Mr Joe Carolan of Auckland, who is fighting for immigrants’ rights said on his FB page that Shujath Mirza fought for justice right up to the minute they put him on the plane,

Speaking to Radio New Zealand at the airport Mr Mirza said he was picked up by the police on February 15 and kept in the police station prison for two nights.

He said his application was processed by an agent, but Immigration New Zealand told him that his loan letter was fraudulent. He said three Indian students were deported along with him. Ms Anu Kaloti of Migrant Workers Forum said they were victims of agents and lax approach taken by Immigration NZ.
